Food Festival Firsts
Published:
There's one month to go until Shrewsbury Food Festival, and we are excited to bring you some festival firsts!
Introducing the new Teach and Taste Tent. It's an evolution of the Chef School following feedback that our customers wanted more opportunities to sample our local exhibitors’ incredible food and drink. In our new teach and taste area, you can hear local producers, artisans and chefs talking about their products, with insightful tips and demo’s, and have the opportunity to sample their products.
This year, there is an evening charity concert on Saturday, 28th June. The concert is in memory of the four teenagers who tragically lost their lives in a crash in North Wales in November 2023. The concert will raise funds for Shine On with Harvey Owen, a charity founded by one of the boys’ mothers, Crystal Owen. The charity aims to support pathways for young people to enjoy the arts, music, and food, which were all passions of Harvey’s. The concert is included in the standard ticket price or you can come for just £10pp.
Due to the concert, we are open until 10pm on Saturday, 28th June, so for the first time in our festival’s history, you can party until the sun goes down! The lower field of exhibitors and kids area will be closed from 6.30pm, leaving street food, bars, and the live music stage open until the 10pm closing.
Adam Purnell, the Shropshire Lad, will be cooking an entire cow over a fire for 24 hours! On Saturday, 28th June, you can speak to Adam about the process, and on Sunday, 29th June, you can try his slow-cooked beef.
We are also adding a Community Area to promote the work that local organisations do. West Mercia Police, Shropshire Fire Service and National Highways will be holding interactive activities.
We’ll be welcoming our first-ever Great British Bake Off star. Christiaan de Vries will join us on both days to bake up some magic.
This year, the Kids Cookery School will be run by Katie’s Kitchen. They will run sessions for budding chefs aged 4 to 12 years old. The hands-on one-hour sessions will each feature a different child-friendly recipe that encourages imagination and basic kitchen skills. Children will mix, shape, and decorate their culinary creations to take home or enjoy on the spot.
And all that is on top of the usual festival fun – chef demonstrations, food, drink and homeware stalls, street food, bars, live music stage, family entertainment stage, field to fork area, and a family area full to the brim with free kids activities and rides.
See you in the Quarry on 28th and 29th June!
